Outreachy provides internships in open source to people subject to systemic bias and impacted by under representation in the technical industry where they are living. It is a wonderful chance to work with experienced mentors from open source communities.
Wikimedia is a global movement whose mission is to bring free educational content to the world. Through various projects, chapters, and the support structure of the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, Wikimedia strives to bring about a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.
A Bit About Myself¶
I am Mahfuza, a Computer Engineer from a very beautiful small country named Bangladesh.
Primarily I chose studying computer engineering because it was the subject where dad would buy me a personal computer (yea, you are reading this right 😜 ). Later on gradually I absolutely fell in love with programming, the adrenaline rush of solving a problem after sitting and staring for hours in front of the screen to solve a problem.
I love open source. Some people are giving their efforts for free for the community and helping others…this amazes me. This is why I also want to be a part of those amazing open source contributors, and want to learn and serve the community.
My Core Values¶
Core values shape a person and it is the fundamental of one’s personality. Here in this blog I will mention my three top core values - family, compassion and optimism.
Family:¶
The love of family and the admiration of friends is much more important than wealth and privilege.
- Charles Kuralt Quote provided by Ramses in Sherwood Park.
I am blessed with a wonderful family. Their love means the whole world to me. For me, my family is of fundamental importance above everything.
Compassion:¶
Compassion drives our commitment to serving others with empathy, respect, and dignity. As a human being, as a programmer I believe it is important to think about others and make my surroundings better.
Optimism:¶
I feel an optimistic attitude leads to a better and happy lifestyle. It improves my emotional well-being, fosters better relationships and provides protection against unfavorable events.
Why Applied to Outreachy¶
If I answer briefly why I applied to Outreachy I would say it is an amazing opportunity to learn work in very renown tech companies and learn from very experienced and knowledgeable mentors.

For next three years I will be working on a very interesting project on Wikimedia foundation with my mentor Mike Peel and I am super exited and looking forward for it.
